BactoKind

Probiotics for the first 1000 days of life

Your baby's health and well being is what matters most to you.

It is what matters most to us, too.

Breastfeeding is the gold standard for infant feeding.

Breastmilk is the ideal nutrition for the optimal growth, development and health of infants. Breastmilk contains the right nutrients, offers protection and builds tolerance.

SURI BioTech supports the recommendation of the World Health Organization and UNICEF:

  • Babies should be exclusively breastfed during the first six months of life

  • Babies can start receiving complementary foods at six months of age in addition to breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond

At SURI BioTech we are dedicated to develop science -backed probiotics for infants.

We apply a novel approach to develop precision probiotics. The natural strains included in our products are rationally selected for their ability to be active in infant gut conditions.

The importance of the gut microbiome during the first 1000 days of life

The early exposure of babies to microbes can influence their immune programming [1]. Gut microbes help babies to establish a proper intestinal mucosal barrier function and guide the maturation of the immune system. Impaired microbial colonization, as the one that may occur when babies are born by caesarean section, formula-fed or when antibiotics are given during the first year of life [2], can have long-term impact on the development of immune-mediated diseases such as asthma, atopic dermatitis or eczema, allergic rhinitis, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases or type I diabetes [1].

Probiotics which contain infant gut-adapted bifidobacteria, can be used as an intent to restore the gut microbes that might be affected by practices that impair infant gut colonization [3].

Our products

Alleviating Infant Colic

BactoKind™, is a probiotic food supplement for the alleviation of infant colic.

BactoKind ™, is the first product for infant colic, which has a scientifically demonstrated mechanism of action.

Designed for daily oral supplementation

BactoKind's mechanism of action

Colic infants are bloated with intestinal hydrogen (H2) gas due to an unbalanced intestinal microbial activity [1,2].

BactoKind™ strains compete with gas producing bacteria, restoring the intestinal balance.

Maternal Health

Our supplement for mothers

Babies are born sterile and their first exposure to microbes occurs during delivery. Mums’s microbes contribute to «seeding» their newborn’s gut. During birth, mother’s transmit mainly vaginal and fecal microbes to their offsprings. Microbes originating from breast milk and maternal skin and oral cavity are also identified in babies up to 4 months of age [1].

Our supplement for pregnant mothers contains Bifidobacterium species that occur naturally in breast-milk and mother’s gut, and with demonstrated vertical mother-to-infant transmission [2, 3].

Infant Gut Restoration

Our supplement for early-life gut microbiota restoration

Breastmilk is the ideal nutrition for the optimal growth, development and health of infants. Human Milk Oligossacharides (HMOs) are complex carbohydrates that are normally present in mother’s breast-milk. HMOs constitute 20% of all the carbohydrates in breast-milk and provide selective nutritional advantages to specific microbes which consume these sugars. Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis (B. infantis) is a bacteria that is specially adapted to utilize HMOs as main substrate and is usually abundant in breastfed infants [1].

This natural keystone bacteria provides beneficial effects on the intestinal and immune development of babies. B. infantis colonization can be affected by C-section, modern lifestyle and antibiotic treatment, and its reduction has been correlated with development of respiratory allergies and asthma [1,2, 3].

Our supplement for newborns contains Bifidobacterium infantis strains with proven capacity of HMO consumption.

Our approach for developing next-gen microbiome solutions

Based on our deep understanding on the infant gut microbiome development, we have rationally selected a portfolio of probiotic strains.

Our strains are natural and highly adapted to the infant gut and from taxonomical groups with qualified presumption of safety status by EFSA [1].

Our bottom-up approach for developing probiotics consist in first identifying the metabolic niches key to restore gut balance.

Subsequently, we screen, identify, test and finally select the best bacterial strains that are metabolically active to intervene with precision.

Causality is at the heart of our methodology.
